Why branching video beats linear training footage
A recorded scenario has one ending. Real judgment training has to react to what the trainee actually does. Here's why branching changes the drill.
Linear video is great at showing a situation. It is terrible at teaching a decision.
When every run plays out the same way, trainees learn the clip, not the judgment. Branching scenarios change that: the path forks on what the trainee does — a verbal command, a keypress, or a laser hit in a zone.
What branching unlocks
- Consequence. A good decision and a bad one lead somewhere different.
- Repeatability. Run the same scenario across a cohort and compare outcomes.
- Debrief. The after-action report shows the exact path taken.
